Student Payment and Registration Policy

Purpose

This policy document is meant to make all Cavendish University Zambia students aware of the registration and payment requirements of the University. All students should be aware of these rules, to assist with this, a copy of this policy is posted on the Announcement Board of the CULP platform, powered by ClanEd, for your reference.

These rules are to be used to facilitate student registration and payment of tution and other fees. This policy outlines the criteria used by the University to recognize a student as registered and eligible to study and take part in all academic activities in the current semester/term.

The University reserves the right to change these rules from time to time and will endeavor to give all students proper notification if and when such changes occur.

Registration Deadline

A registered student is any student who has, at a minimum, paid the registration and user fees for the semester and has either

  1. paid their tuition fees in full or
  2. have a duly approved promissory note indicating how tuition for the semester/term will be paid in full.

Any student with an outstanding balance from the previous semester/term will NOT be eligible to register until he/she clears all outstanding balances from the previous semester/term.

Additionally, all School of Medicine students, with the exception of Foundation students, are required to register with the appropriate regulator. MBChB and BCSc students must register with HPCZ while the BNMw students must register with GNC. Once registered with their regulatory body, these students will be provided with an Index Number.

Students must be indexed within the first month of being quartered in the programme in order to be considered as a registered CUZ student. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that they are properly registered with their respective regulatory body.

NB: Only registered students will be eligible to sit for continuous assessment tests and final exams or participate in any University or CUZ Student Union sanctioned activities.

Registration fees and discounts

At the beginning of each semester/term, every student, at a minimum, must pay the Registration and User fees at the time of registration. Students who have not paid the Registration and User fees will not be allowed to attend classes.

Application fees and discounts

A one time, non refundable application fee is charged to all new students applying to Cavendish University Zambia.

All new students who pay the full fees (registration, user and tuition fees) by the end of the 4th week of the semester/term will receive a 10% discount of that semester/term's tuition fees.

Fee payment Schedule and Early Payment Discount

Students are strongly encouraged to pay all their registration, user and tuition fees at the point of registration to enjoy an uninterrupted semester. In any case, these should be paid no later than the fourth week (4th) of a semester/term.

In the event that a student is unable to make the full payment at the point of registration, the University will allow such students to take up a payment plan, provided there is no previous balance. The standard payment plan for students during the semester/term is shown here below. Students will only be considered current and allowed to attend classes if they have paid according to this payment schedule.

  1. 50% of tuition and fees by the end of the 4th week
  2. 75% of tuition and fees by the end of the 8th week
  3. 100% of tuition and fees by the end of the 12th week

NB: Students who pay 100% of tuition and fees by the end of 4th week of the semester/term will receive a 10% discount of the tuition fees.

Late payment fees

Due to the additional administrative costs incurred by the University when a student misses their agreed payment deadlines, the University will impose the following late payment penalties:

  1. Students who have not paid at least 50% of tuition and other fees or who fail to officially register by the end of the 4th week of the semester/term will be charged a late payment fee of ZMW 350 or USD 35.
  2. Students who have not paid at least 75% of tuition and fees by the end of the 8th week of the semester/term will be charged an additional late payment fee of ZMW 200 or USD 20.
  3. Students who have not paid 100% of tuition and fees by the end of the 12th week the semester/term will be charged an additional late payment fee of ZMW 200.00 or USD 20.

This means that a student who misses all 3 payment deadlines will be subject to ZMW 750 or USD 75 USD in total late fees, in addition to tuition fees.
